Email is one of the most common ways of sending and receiving information online. There are many ways of running a free or fee paying email newsletter service. With either option, you can make a very good profit.
To succeed, you need to choose a subject that will grab many people’s attention. Offer something valuable which has unique content. In addition, make sure you are consistent and reliable. The best option is a weekly, biweekly or monthly newsletter. Weight loss tips has been the focus of my monthly newsletter which features ediet coupons and weight watchers discounts.
If you have a site, you could offer a newsletter to go with it. If you don’t have a site but have a great concept for a newsletter, you could create a basic site around your idea since this will bring in more subscribers. You might also have a product, for example an eBook, with its own sales page. You could create a newsletter around that topic and offer it as a bonus for anyone who purchases the book.
What you should avoid is flooding your newsletter with too many affiliate links. Include them in moderation. Your newsletter should offer plenty of valuable content which is not available elsewhere.
If you charge for your newsletter, make sure you are offering truly unique information. In return for their subscription fee, you need to help your subscribers make or save some money. Find out how other related online newsletters are doing before creating your own. You need to have great passion for your topic, otherwise you will be worn out by the weekly or monthly demand of writing the newsletter.
Finally, have a few issues of the newsletter ready in advance, long before mailing the first issue to your first subscribers. This will enable you to begin marketing the newsletter from the onset, as well as avoiding panicking when you can’t come up with content for the next issue.

I would fully agree with the observation above,e mail marketing is very powerful when done to your warm market,however sadly it is often abused by bombarding a list with constant sales messages of dubious quality and with constant misleading subject lines to trick people into opening them
In my personal experience all this achieves is a complete loss of trust and mass unsubscribing and yet it seems to be standard fare in Internet Marketing these days
People complain of unresponsive lists but I think its more about how they treat their list

I think email newsletters would be great for certain markets/niches. If I were to start one about internet marketing though, I’m pretty sure my mail open rate won’t be very impressive. A lot of folks in the internet marketing niche would understandably be immune to these.

As far as I know, there isn’t a plugin that can accomplish the same high level of delivery and throughput able to be managed by the commercially available services you mention. I guess that’s due in part to the complexities of getting mail past spam filters and that the commercial providers of mail delivery services have achieved this very well. A mail service hosted on your blog, with a plugin, is not going to be as effective and, likely to have your domain blacklisted by spam filters when you reach a certain volume unless you spend a lot of time researching the lastest spam filtering algorithms.
In summary, spend a few dollars and outsource mail delivery services and use your time more effectively in building your own business. Leave specialist service deliery to the specialists
