I am trialling a plugin that turns all comments into a separate page that includes all other comments by the same author. I found out about it from my online friend Barry Wells.Comment contributors who have taken the time to add comments to several posts on my blog will get what appears to the search engines as a separate page of content with a DoFollow link back to their site. The separate page is generated dynamically and is packed with all their contributions from everywhere across the blog. The DoFollow link back to Barry’s site is right at the top of the the page. In fact, they will get one unique page for every comment left on this blog.
Take a look at one of Barry Wells comment summary pages. This link opens in a new tab so that you can check it out, leave it open, then come back here to continue reading about it. Remember, this is just one of his unique pages now hosted on my blog.
If a comment author has posted several times on my blog their “personal” comments page will include every one of those comments and will be like a Guest Post. The exception is that you cannot add comments to the end of personal comments summary page. It does have a few other not-so-obvious benefits though.
It is a guest post with a difference in that it just keeps building as Barry adds more comments to the blog. The comment thread at the bottom of Barry’s page (that you still have open in another tab/window) comes from the particular post you were on when you clicked on Barry’s name or keywords. In Barry’s case it is keywords as he takes advantage of the Keyword Luv plugin.
Not only that, every one of Barry’s comments across the blog links to a new version of his page with a unique URL and a different set of comments depending on the underlying post.
I get dozens of extra content pages that can be found by search engines and each new page has links back to other posts on the site. Search engines like to see a healthy level of linking within a site and it helps the spiders find new comments very fast.
My site map now contains links to several hundred content pages on this blog. Now, some will say that I will get penalised for that as search engines also are claimed to prefer organic growth of pages over time rather than a whole heap coming on line overnight. I guess time will tell.
So in a sense, everyone who comments on my blog and leaves a URL link back to their site is getting an opportunity to build something similar to a guest page on my blog. I never thought I would get into accepting guest posts so soon, even if it is being performed dynamically by this plugin
One drawback is that the link love from the Keyword Luv plugin is not directly from the comment stream but from the dynamic page. This might discourage some casual readers from clicking through to the blog of comment contributors. On the upside, CommentLuv links still point to your chosen post at the end of your comment. I am looking to see if I can edit the plugin so that the Gravatar image points to the custom dynamic page (your “guest post”) and make the KeywordLuv/Your name point back to your chosen URL, like it used to.
Do you like the idea or does it suck big-time? Is it out of this world and would it encourage you to write keyword rich comments knowing that they will all be on a page with a keyword based link to your chosen URL? I think it delivers value to visitors and me. Let me know what you think below.
PS. The plugin is ‘SEO Super Comments‘.

Hi Michael, wow, thank you very much for the mention and for being your example, that’s really good of you thanks mate.
When i first installed the plugin i was really concerned about the fact that the readers wouldn’t go directly to the Commentators website, and thought it may deter people from following through after the page of previous comments, but nobody has mentioned anything and the stats have improved by nearly 25% since installing this and the other plugings.
Personaly my results have spoken load and clear and i’ll be keeping mine installed. I am interested to see what your other readers think about it though and of course may look at it differently after reading their comments.

Hi Michael,
I have been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to decide if I like this plugin or not.
The jury is in….
Yes, I do.
For many reasons, but mainly the recycling of traffic on your blog and the additional content pages.
So yes, well done to Barry for finding it, and I think it will increase comments rather than put people off.
Will I be adding it to my blog?
Hmmmm, give me another ten minutes to think about that one ha ha.
Sally
Sally´s last post..To Be The Interviewer Or Interviewee That Is The Question…
LOL @ Sally. You’re spending 10 minutes on it. I spent a good few hours researching exactly what it does and how it does it before activating it. I am convinced that it will bring a lot of positive benefits to comment authors and my blog.
My next challenge, after visiting the 30+ posts now open before me is to tweak the plugin so that the gravatar image points to the dynamic page and the keyword luv link goes to the comment authors chosen URL.
That way search engines still find the dynamic pages (they are in the sitemap anyway if you also download the special tweak to the XML Sitemaps plugin), and blog visitors (the humans anyway) still are only one click away from all your websites.
CommentLuv still works and gives you a chance to lure a new reader but I would love to finish that tweak anyway to give you all two links back to your sites.
Hi Michael,
Just popped by cos I saw you were in the 100 blog challenge and I’m glad I did,…. sort of…lol
Cos I’ve learned something new…. hence why I say sort of – as now I’ll have to pop back and further investigate the plugin to see if I might add it….lol
The fact that Sally likes it is good enough for me to spend a little time investigating it

Hi Randy, thanks for dropping by and your feedback. So far it is doing a good job and not making the blog slow down any, not noticeably anyway. I think it does all the hard work when someone clicks on the comment author name/keywords, when it goes off to build the dynamic page. As I mentioned above, that will change soon so you will get back an active link from your name direct to your blog.
Don’t forget to use CommentLuv each time as well.
Hi,
I’m with Randy on this one. It looks great, but there goes the ‘Do ‘ list again
Also testing this poor old silver surfer’s technical knowledge.

http://johnedler.com/blog/?p=55 any comments please?
John, I am so sorry for adding to your list of things to do. I keep one of those and it gets longer, not shorter. But you know, it allows me to rest easy when it is time to rest as my head is not trying to juggle all those great ideas.
And if something keeps getting pushed down the list then it is probably not worth my worrying about it anyway.
Before installing this plugin consider what your most wanted response is from it. Mine is to encourage regular commenting as doing so gives each comment author a steadily increasing number of dynamic pages (one dynamic page per comment published) with each page containing a steadily increasing amount of content (all your comments from across the blog).
I have been started commenting in blogs 15 months ago and I can say that blogs are one of the vital platform to share the knowledge and to communicate with each other.
It seems to be an good idea to generate a separate page for each and every comment. It will increase the maximum visibility of each and every comment via search engines and those who are willing to have better SERP for their focused keyword will definitely have more better results.
I does depend, of course, on me keeping the plugin active. But I do intend to do that for the foreseeable future.
The short term result, with the 100 comment challenge probably account for some of it, is my bounce rate has gone from 58% down to 46%. I like that trend as it means people are clicking on at least one other link before leaving my blog.
Hi Michael,
That sounds very interesting. Having ever growing guest post pages would be great.
I’m inclined to like it but the devil is in the details. I could be wrong but the date I saw on the individual comment page was something like August 25, ’10.
It’s probably just a matter of not having everything set up yet.
I’ll keep my eyes open from now on regarding this plug in. Thank you for posting about it.
Without you sharing this I would have never known it even existed.

Vance@Build Email List Squeeze Plugin´s last post..Build Your Opt In List With Any WP Theme Using Sqeeze Plugin
Hi Vance. I will check that one out. Aug 25, 10. Now that was a good day
The main comment from Barry on the sample page is dated July 25, 10 so maybe there is some sort of month translation going on there.
I found it originally on Barry’s blog and the one I use is about to get tweaked to give you back the direct Keyword Luv link and have your Gravatar point to the comment summary page.
The settings page has a great number of options and is confusing so I left most things at their default setting. Maybe one of those settings is to post-date the comments :-O
Hi Michael,
Very cool that you are in the 100 comment challenge! I’ve been having a great time!!
But…..I am a little confused about this plugin.
Where do I go to see Barry’s (or any one else’s) comments? I am not finding it!
I think the plugin could be a cool thing, once I know how it works!!
is it over there in the “favorite people” spot?
Hmmm….I am so confused!!
Lisa~
Hi Lisa. Your comments are linked to your name. Click on the ‘Lisa’ link below your Gravatar and you’ll see the plugin in action. The more comments you make the more you can influence the content of your custom page.
Soon it will be swapped and the Gravatar will point to the comments page and the KeywordLuv keywords will point directly to your blog or chosen URL. This is so that readers who like what you post as a comment can click directly on your link and visit your site.

I’m undecided really…I like the concept a lot and don’t think it would be overly harmful in the search engines.
It’s odd, about a year ago I studied everything I could find on SEO (on page) and put those things into motion.
These days, the more I understand about SEO the more I write for my readers rather than the search engines…although it is much easier to adopt that approach once you have built a brand and have traffic coming to your site…I had to use SEO to get there of course
Take it easy
cheers

I am with you Steve. Most of my efforts are invested in writing and programming all aimed at satisfying the needs of people, not the search engines. We all have to start somewhere and as you mention, SEO is an important component in the early days.
Without some attention to basic SEO a beginning blogger is likely to flounder for some time before simply going under.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing some of the more important ideas behind the KeywordLuv plugin. Yesterday I joined the 100 comment challenge and I installed 3 new plugins successfully, i.e., Comment Luv, WordPress Thread Comment, and Do-Follow. I’m still hesitant about using KeywordLuv though but now that I see how it works I’m more open to giving it a try for the benefit of other serious keywordluv bloggers at least. Be well Michael and I look forward to reading your excellent blog. Steve D.
Welcome Steve. I find in the blogging world that it is good to give and be generous. The KeywordLuv plugin and this one I write about above are aimed at giving back to comment authors in exchange for their time and effort in visiting, reading and commenting.

Howdy Michael,
Leaned lots, pal. Thanks.
I guess the only thing that confuses / concerns me is that the other comments get pushed further to the bottom of the page, if I understand this properly.
But as readers get accustomed to seeing many comments from a single person, I imagine they should soon learn to scroll down if they want to see varied commenters on the post. Kinda like Youtube.
I also appreciate the investigation and thought you are putting into this decision because I was beginning to fear that Mr. Wells would moon somebody and within days we’d all be yarding down our trousers…

Bryan
Hi Bryan, you picked that one up hey? I have been quietly looking at the duplicate content matter as the comments continue to build. One thing in favour of the plugin is that each separate dynamic page is headed up with the unique comment text from which it is linked. Sure, there are a collection of the same comments from that comment author but I have just noticed that it is only the last five comments. Maybe there is a way to lock it to the last five in date order or something. Hmmm, sounds like a weekend project. Thanks for your thoughts and good luck with the challenge.

A I missing anything?
If I am right, then it seems to be a very powerful plugin you have here.
My only concern will be the “side effect” from the search engines you mentioned.
I also have some more questions about word press plugins in general, which I hope you don’t mind me asking. Cause it seems to be you are very knowledgeable about these PlugIn subject. Here’s my question…
I read from somewhere that too many plugins for our word press can slow down the laod time of our blog, is i true?
If it is, how many is too many? And is there anyway we can help solve the problem other than bot having too many plugins?
Thanks in advance. I may follow the step of Igior of testing and play around with the plugin on another site to assess your recommendation further.
Cheers
Jason Ser
Hi Jason,
I am still a little unsure about how the search engines will treat the duplicate part of the content. I think it needs a bit of a tweak to the way it displays the other comments from the post. At the moment the plugin displays your comment from the post, then your comments (up to 5) from other posts, then all the other comments from everyone else from the original post. It is the last component that is most at risk of being seen as duplicate content. Hang in there and I will get a few tweaks worked out soon.
Too many plugins is not so much the problem. Rather it is the content that comes with those plugins. It could be extra image files, style sheets (CSS), JavaScript files and so on. The biggest delay with any blog is the number of items on the page AND the size of some of those items. Some plugins add a dozen or more items and some add one really big image which can add many seconds to your load time. See this post for more detail on load time – Is Your Blog Bogged?. The speed report you get from the site I refer to in that post is very revealing. Read through the report and you will see if any page elements need some attention. You will read in the comments of that post that I uninstalled a particular social bookmarking plugin because the image it loads is massive.
Michael.

Sure Jason, ask away
Whatever will they think of next. Sound like it could be a good idea but I agree with what Michael above says. How do you know when a blogger has this installed?
It is not immediately obvious with some plugins. Unless a blogger says so or the plugin has an obvious element on the page, you can not really tell by just looking. This plugin changes the link under the keyword luv words to point to an internal page containing a collection of your comments. That is the only external change that indicates this plugin is live, unless the blogger writes a post about it

Hmm, this seems like a good idea. I am wondering though, did it improve your blog so far? I mean, with regards to stats?
It is difficult to tell. I really picked a good time to join the 100 comment challenge

Note to self – when measuring the effectiveness of a plugin, avoid other significant traffic generating activities.
I will still track the stats to see if I can gain any useful info.
Hi Michael,
Getting backlinks by blog commenting is getting harder and ineffective all the time. Wow! This plugin will make lots of people start commenting again!
I like the idea of having a page on your blog with just mine links inside. G! will give me more “link juice” and PR… hehe
I think this plugin is also good for the owner of the blog. Because..
More content pages = more changes to get traffic = more money!
The drawback is that it produces duplicate content BUT there are more benefits than drawbacks and will try it out.
Give as a more detailed impression about the plugin once the 100Blog Post Challenge ends and you have more data to analyze.

This plugin sounds really good. Its a win-win-win situation – more content for the owner of the blog, more link juice to people who take the time to comment & are getting something in return for their time and more info for your visitors.
Not sure though how far this could get though, but a fair balance of intra-blog links (links on the same blog) and inter-blog links (links to readers blog) should be fine.
One thing I did not understand well is about the comments below ?
Cheers!
Abizer
The plugin does create the appearance of more content pages. Google is aware that blogs do contain duplicate content via use of tags, category and other collections of pages so I am hoping that the extra pages are not seen as simple duplicates of existing content.
I think it sounds like a very interesting method and hopefully it will attract more comments for you.
Good luck and let us know how it has gone!

I don’t think you have to worry about duplicate content too much as it is all technically unique to your site – the ‘myth’ of duplicate content is all too often over publicised (having spoken to a few SEO specialists) and relates more to the fact that content is taken from authority sites and copied, a typical example being duplicated reviews, articles or similar.
Will follow this one with interest – a great addition to the 100 comments challenge! Cheers

I think it is a matter of reading about other people’s experience and making up your mind about which ones suit your blog, writing style, business plans and theme. I am sure if you spend a few hours reading plugin reviews you will come up with your own list of five super plugins that you ‘must have’.
Hi Mike
Really enjoyed the post and the site too.
As i’m part of the 100 blog comments group I recently installed a few plugins as recommended by Jacinta including the keyword luv plugin.
As my to-do list is six miles long at present I’m working on other items but will definately remember your post.
Stay healthy

Hi Alex. I thought I was the only one with a to-do list like that
I discovered a trick with long to-do lists … pick just one thing to do each day. When you get that done, celebrate, then if there is time left in your day, start something else. Each week you will complete at least 5~6 tasks – you have to have one day off
– and you will feel better about it too.
Hi michael,
The plugin sounds great but unfortunately being as technically challenged as I am, It’s going to have to wait a while.
Thanks for reminding me to install the keyword Luv plugin, I’ve been so busy with the challenge i’d forgotten all about it nor if the truth be known did I understand the importance of it.
I’m heading back to my blog and installing it now.
Enjoy the challenge

Michelle, I just checked and saw that you have that plugin working successfully. Well done. One step at a time and you will get there. Just be sure you know where you are going… Michael.

Hi Michael,
Great post and very good information about, what sounds to be, a great plugin. I also have a huge to do list and will certainly be added this to my ‘must have a look at’.
Good luck with the Challenge, I will be back soon to check out the rest of your blog.
Take care.

It is working out more positive than negative so far. I am sure that once the challenge is over I will have ample traffic data to analyse.

Thanks for the great post about this plugin. It sounds very interesting. I am going to look into it a little further before I decide to install it but I really like the concept.
Thanks again for sharing!

Rick Byrd´s last post..Business Ethics – Is There Such a Thing
Hi Rick. I was a little skeptical at first as the plugin removes the keywordluv link from the comment tree and redirects to the comment authors ‘personal page’. So far so good. Time will tell if it helps me, comment authors or all of us

Hi Michael,
I was just thinking about my commentators today as I looked through their comments. I know that there are several of them whom are regulars and I wanted to have a special place for them too. This plugin will come in really handy. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I’ll definitely put it to good use.
Cheers!

Thu, this is one plugin that will do just that. You cannot configure much about the comment author’s own page but it does include a link back to their site right near the top of the page, with no other outgoing links like in a normal comment thread.
Hi Michael, I’m with Rick Byrd and a few others on this one, I think it needs a little more looking into before I dip my feet into the water so to speak, but I am sure going to keep a close eye on it to see how it progresses. Good luck to this and and the challenge.
Keith
Keith, it seems to be one of those plugins that people either love at first sight or are cautiously hesitant. Either way, stay subscribed to the thread for a few more weeks and I will publish traffic data for the individual comment pages.
