sunset Four Action Steps To Internet Business Success

My story is still being written but I do want to share with you my success story so far in relation to building up my online website business.

I started several years ago by dabbling with a variety of business models including blogs, affiliate marketing, PLR (Private Label Rights) and click-based ads, such as PPC (Pay Per Click).

I was initially experimenting and simply wanted to supplement my day job income and, hopefully, replace it one day with income generated from my activities online. I had no real plan or time-frame.

During the initial few months, several internet marketers inspired me to keep on going even when the monthly income was nowhere near enough to cover web hosting let alone giving me some pocket money.

It has been a few years and a bumpy road along the way but I have finally turned a corner. I am now looking forward to a year of growth – both with regard to income and also wisdom to know which internet business models to stick with and which to leave behind.

I will be progressively posting everything I have learned these last few years on this blog, as well as everything I learn as I continue building the business. I invite you to follow me on my journey, – you may pick up a tip or two that will save you valuable time, money or grief!.

I also invite you to write your feedback below and let me know how you are progressing on your journey in the internet marketing world.

For now however, my advice to anyone in the early stages of starting an internet business, or having started but stalled somewhere along the way, would be:

1. Steer clear of the get-rich-quick crowd and the multitude of reports, e-books and membership sites on offer. They promise the world and deliver empty promises of untold fortunes, all waiting behind their “Buy Now” button. The only ones getting rich are the people behind the schemes.

2. Develop a clear set of goals regarding income, time spent working on developing and running the business and the structure/composition of the business. Write it down, put it on a whiteboard beside your desk. Refer to it often. Tinker with it until you get it right.

When will you know if it is right? When there is enough time in your plan for the important things in life (God, family, friends, yourself) as well as a series of income streams that have realistic income goals that you know you can achieve.

3. Stay on course. No matter what anyone says, once you have done your research and decided what is best for you, work according to your plan and vision. You can make it happen but only if you stop buzzing to and fro between the latest gimmicks, product releases and so on. Stay on course and you can succeed. It takes aggressive determination to succeed online and it is not for the faint of heart.

4. Act! Every day! Do something each day that builds value into your business. Make sure that it relates to achieving something valuable in your plan (see #2). Don’t panic if you miss a day for some good reason. Get back on course as soon as you can.

My favorite saying around #4 is:

If a plan is the roadway to success then
action is the vehicle that will take you there.
- Michael Pedzotti

I can’t find it anywhere online so I am claiming it as my own, for now!

These days all businesses going online, it is very important that you have you business name registered. Getting a trademark registered helps you to stop people trading under your business name. At time they try to do bad publicity under your name. So according to me getting your business name registered is of at most priority.

  9. Bewster from SEO says:

Pay per click advertising can potentially drive a lot of internet traffic to your website using either method if it is done correctly. With some time and research you could certainly set it up on your own, and the internet will provide you with a lot of information you can use to get started. Most of the search engines like Google, or Bing have certain “rules” you can follow to help move your page to the top of SEO rankings. Not following the rules, or breaking too many of them can hurt your rankings. You can also hire someone to set up your pay per click advertising campaigns.

  10. Leonardo from sop samples for mba says:

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment
(it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any points for rookie blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.

    • Michael says:

Hmmm, yes … write informative and constructive comments on other blogs that are related to your area of interest.

  11. John from Invoice Factoring UK says:

I love the lifestyle that comes from running an online business. I get to work from home each day, set my own hours, choose my own projects, and enjoy abundant income. It’s hard for me to imagine how I’d feed myself without the Internet. When I think about income generation, I immediately think of the web.

  12. Anne from Outsource to Freelancers says:

You made your business succeed and you also kept your day job?Did you get any help for constructing your website or designing it?
Anyway, i agree that action is the most important thing in making a business work, but i have to say that about the planning, i think that especially in online business you need to keep your eyes and mind open since things are changing so so fast. Changing your decisions all the time won’t work, but neither will sticking stubbornly to your plan.

  13. Michael says:

Hi Anne, It’s a balancing act for sure. I still need to work to balance the budget but the income from a number of online activities helps make life easier. If there was a magic formula I could share with people starting out, it would have to be what I said above – have a plan and act on it every day. Couple this with some common sense, such as your advice to keep your eyes and mind open, and you’re on a winner :)

    Michael.
