Hi Anne, I agree with outsourcing the developing and designing but you have to be careful with outsourcing content writing. I welcome guest posts here but not every guest post submitted gets published.

Note: The views in the remainder of this comment are not directed at any of the above comment authors, just my view based on some recent activity on flippa dot com.

For sure though, building websites and selling them is one way to make a living but if you check on flippa dot com you’ll see a lot of boiler-plate websites that have been hacked together to look “mature”, “happening” and “current” but they’re nothing more than junk filled with recycled/spun content.

I’ve seen many sites on flippa lately that have no Google PR or Alexa rank. That is, they are so new the ink is still wet on the home page graphics. In all cases, there was no declaration of income – because there is none! – and only wild claims of the “potential” to make income. My take on this: If website flipping turns your wheels then by all means, pursue it with all your passion but if you’re a buyer looking for an existing website, be very careful as there are many junk sites out there built just to tempt the inexperienced, first-time investor.

Hi Anne, It’s a balancing act for sure. I still need to work to balance the budget but the income from a number of online activities helps make life easier. If there was a magic formula I could share with people starting out, it would have to be what I said above – have a plan and act on it every day. Couple this with some common sense, such as your advice to keep your eyes and mind open, and you’re on a winner

Buying an existing website is certainly an easier way. It might need more research, but that’s about everything you need to do. Personally, i prefer building my own website in order to create it in a SEO optimized way and decide upon the content, style, design etc. For those who choose to build their site and not buy an existing one, you can find great freelance professionals online that can help you out with the operational things, like actually developing, designing or writing the content for your website.

You made your business succeed and you also kept your day job?Did you get any help for constructing your website or designing it?
Anyway, i agree that action is the most important thing in making a business work, but i have to say that about the planning, i think that especially in online business you need to keep your eyes and mind open since things are changing so so fast. Changing your decisions all the time won’t work, but neither will sticking stubbornly to your plan.
